Seizures

The seizure is an involuntary contraction of certain muscles volunteers.

The seizures are caused by a temporary alteration of the nervous system caused by abnormal activity of some neurons and the thalamus (known epileptogenic foci), with the sudden and excessive production of nervous stimuli reaching peripherally muscles, causing involuntary contraction.

The types of seizure depends on the source of the convulsion, or if the epileptogenic focus within the brain is located in a (partial seizures), distributed (generalized seizures and continuous), and undefined in epileptic seizures (continuous seizures).

Types of Seizures

Crisis partial
Simple, characterized by the appearance, for example, an involuntary movement of a limb are not associated with loss of consciousness
Complex involving a loss of consciousness at various levels. Clonic seizures: rhythmic and rapid succession of muscular contractions at a distance of about 2-3 seconds of each other
Tonic-clonic seizures: there will be an initial contraction of the muscles that can lead to urinary incontinence, lack of breath and bite the tongue, followed then by a succession dicontrazioni rhythmic muscle
Atony: involves the loss of muscle tone, and thus fall to earth person.
Status epilepticus
